Tonga (pictured) and his sister Rose, both Kinte pups, are working at becoming avalanche search and rescue dogs at our local ski resort with a 7200' base elevation high in the Sierras. Rose had started the training program earlier and was doing so well another search team member bought Tonga from our next Kinte litter. These young dogs must ride chair lifts up and down, mix it up in the ski lodge with all the skiers, do patrol work around children on sleds, skis, snowmobiles, snowcats, avalanche guns, and other dogs in all weather conditions while being ready 'on call' basis for fast, intense, demanding search work in the snow. This requires strong nerve, high drive, and strength of physical stamina to endure sometimes very challenging conditions. And most of all, a dog with capacity for great teamwork and love of handler.
